Built with vision,
lived with passion
Crans-Sapins opened its doors in December 1961, after more than a year of construction under the direction of Jean Suter, a renowned architect in Valais. He designed the entire project – from the colour of the walls to that of the carpet, including all the furniture that still enlivens the premises today.
The establishment has welcomed visitors to the Haut-Plateau for many years, contributing to the growth of the resort and its tourism in the 20th century.e century.
In 2019, he became At Elsy's when the founders' granddaughters take over. Three generations are busy with renovation work, bringing the spaces up to date while preserving the soul of the place.
Elsy
The one thanks to whom it all began
Originally from Stalden in Upper Valais, Elsy arrived in Crans at the age of 21 to «get to know the area». She met Grand-Papa there, and together they embarked on a somewhat crazy project: building a hotel on the high plateau, well outside the tourist centre of the time.
«Nothing ventured, nothing gained» – that was already his motto. They opened their establishment in 1961. The years have passed, but Elsy is still there, true to his post. Pop by and say hello!
She loves receiving fresh fruit for making her jams — and she shares them at breakfast. One more reason to spend the night with us.

A historic, recognised hotel
In 2018, the establishment was mentioned by the Swiss Heritage Prize commission, Valais romand section, in its brochure on historic hotels in the canton.
At the end of 2021, the hotel received the «Historic Hotel 2022» award from ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites). Winning this award is the culmination of 60 years of sharing, a huge recognition for our work, but also, and above all, for that of Grandma Elsy.
Almost 60 years after it opened, the original furnishings, the «sixties» decor, and the modernist architecture by Jean Suter bear witness to a carefully preserved history. A vibrant, lived-in place that is unlike any other in Crans-Montana.
